How to Declutter Your Closet

Summer is here! It's time to declutter your closet and make room for your Hot Girl Summer outfits. Whenever I think of having to organize my closet and declutter, it brings me anxiety. It's one of those moments where you know it's going to get worse before it looks like you've made progress. So, I will share my steps to decluttering a closet that needs an overhaul. Don't know where to start?

First, you will want boxes. Label your boxes with donate, sale, and keep. One of my favorite places to resale is on Poshmark. I will use the FaceBook marketplace when I don't find the time to upload on a platform like Poshmark. So keep in mind you may want to sell items to buy some new pieces for the season.

Second, I will go through each piece one at a time and sort it out in one of the boxes. For example, I start with my shoes, handbags, accessories, clothes in drawers, and everything on hangers. I don't throw my shoes or bags in boxes but lay them out neatly in my room. I will typically spend a lot of time because it's piece by piece. Once your closet is empty, you may want to take a ten-minute break. Give yourself a break to give you the boost you need.

Now it's time to bring out the cleaning items. Wipe down your shelves, clean the inside of your drawers, sweep, mop, or vacuum your floor. You want to make sure and dust from top to bottom. Unfortunately, it's not very often we have the opportunity to do a deep clean of our closets.

You want to take a look and reflect on what worked and didn't work in the previous closet setup you had. It may be best to put your tops in the drawer or hang them on the other end of your closet. You will have to decide how you would like to set up your blank canvas. You'll need to consider how you would like to group your items. What items are the most worn? It's a perfect time to buy baskets, jewelry organizers, or any kind of storage solutions.

It's finally time to put your clothes back in the closet. This is the best part because you are ALMOST DONE! Plus, you get to be creative on how you would like to set up a functional closet. Designate areas in your closet by category, such as accessories, handbags, shoes, undergarments, tees, blouses, skirts, pants, dresses, etc.

Enjoy your clean, organized, decluttered closet. Now you have room for new summer outfits.
